Transforming a backyard into something attractive and practical is just the tip of the iceberg for David Steele and his crew from Ocean Beach Landscapes.

A horticulturist, Mr Steele said the business could do just about anything - from general landscaping jobs to excavating and small concreting jobs.

Creating pleasant surroundings adds the finishing touch to a home.

``We can do all this and everything in between," he said.

``I can call in the relevant tradesman such as plumbers and bricklayers to complete various jobs, including drainage and brick works when the need arises."

Mr Steele said most of the work completed by Ocean Beach Landscapes was structural, opposed to soft landscaping which included designing a garden area, re-turfing and irrigation.

``Although we do a lot of soft landscaping jobs, 60 per cent of the work we do includes things such as excavating and building retaining walls," he said.

``We are now undertaking a fairly big project at a Port Kembla residential property which will take about a month to complete.

``The project has involved removing an existing retaining wall, excavating nearly 65 tonnes of sand from the site, constructing a new brick retaining wall to engineers' specifications and installing behind-wall drainage, borderline edging for gardens and automatic irrigation systems for turf and garden areas.

``We will also pave the entertainment area and construct a barbecue by the time we're finished."

Ocean Beach Landscapes was available to complete jobs in the areas from Gerringong to Woonona.
